In my search for a solution to the ever growing (out of control) spam problems, I turned to the open source community for a simple, cost effective (free) application that would help me cope with the issue. I found many applications including SpamAssasin that would meet my requirements and bring my mailbox under control, but than I stumbled upon Untangle.
Untangle is a collection of open source applications bundled into a well presented, easy to manage, network appliance.
The Open Source Applications include the following:

- Virus Blocking
- Phish Blocker
- Intrusion Prevention
- Attack Blocker
- Firewall
- OpenVPN
- Untangle Reports
- Routing & QoS
There are also some Commercial Add-on’s that may be purchased on a subscription basis, but for personal use, the open source apps are well rounded and provide me with everything I need.

- Remote Access Portal
If you are looking for a full-featured Internet Gateway solution, I would definitely check out Untangle. It has brought my inbox under control, as well as given me a number of other award winning applications for managing the security of my network.
