Week 3 completed.. Had an issue with some tendonitis (I’ll chock that up to getting old and being sedentary for a while). It’s nothing a little will-power and ignoring pain won’t overcome. On to week 4. Starting to push the envelope on endurance as the running times are starting to rapidly increase. I’ll let you know how it goes, but right now I am staying positive as I push for the 5k goal.
Finished up week two of my couch 2 5k running program. I am feeling really good during the runs. Now the run intervals start increasing. I am traveling this week so this is going to be another challenge, but if I push myself, I am confident I can pull it off. 7 more weeks to running a 5k again
Like knights of the old… My friends and Teri and I, mounted our steeds of iron and steel and made the 150 mile pilgrimage to Colorado’s only true castle in the sky. Bishop’s castle is an amazing creation of one man’s sweat and muscle. Jim Bishop started building his creation over 40 years ago and is continuing to build until he dies. Every year he hauls thousand of pounds of rock and steel to expand the construction. You have to watch your step as there are no building codes or safety regulations here. Whatever Jim feels like doing…… he does. When you think that all of the construction was done without any heavy machinery, you are amazed at the feat. Simple scaffolding and a strong back is what made this marvel. If you are ever in Colorado and looking to see something that is not the usual tourist destination, you have to visit Bishop’s Castle. On top of being absolutely amazing… Jim Bishop keeps his creation open to the public and absolutely free. Donations gladly accepted.
Tonight I finished up week 1 of the couch to 5k running program. Now I am no where near my day’s back in the Corps, but I think I am on the right track . The program is designed to start out slow, but is meant to get you up and running a 5k in 9 weeks. Although the program focuses more on completing the workout without stopping and not the speed in which you run, I am shooting for an under 30 minute time. My ultimate goal at the moment is to hit sub 24’s, but we will have to see how I do completing the program.
Went on a good ride last Sunday with Teri and some friends. We couldn’t ask for better weather. It was the Road King vs the GSXRs. I had comfort, they had speed.. But since our goal was to enjoy the day, everyone had a great time. We had breakfast at a nice little cafe in Kiowa. If you ever make it to that part of Colorado I definitely recommend stopping in. I have only eaten off the breakfast menu, but if their other dishes are as good as breakfast, you cannot go wrong.
Heading off to Bishop’s Castle next week. I am looking forward to another day on the bike with friends.
